Ultimate Anfield Experience

Anfield Experience

Matt is a huge Liverpool football fan. In fact to say he is a fan is an understatement, he literally lives, breathes and eats LFC! So for Christmas I booked us the Ultimate Anfield Experience.

After struggling to find the carpark amidst the building works we arrived in the Boot Room cafe at 9.45am, greeted by the events team and given a free tea, coffee or juice voucher. From here we met the other people on the VIP tour by the Bill Shankley statue and begun our tour round the stadium. Unfortuantley we couldn't visit the new main stand as the huge extension it is undergoing is in full swing, however the rest of the tour was great; informative and funny and the Hillsborough memorial poignant.

Fun Fact: The opponent team's changing room is controlled by LFC, including heating, air con, and (lack of) sound proofing. Also, the last thing the team see before going on to the pitch is their reflection in a distorted mirror giving them short legs and an extended torso!

At 12.30 after the extensive tour we sat down in an executive box overlooking the pitch for a three course lunch, which was de-licious. The best thing for me was that they were very happy to cater to my unusual dietary requirements and made up a delicious quinoa roasted vegetable dish for my main and fresh fruit salad for dessert! On the main menu was:

.Roasted tomato soup with goats cheese torellini

.Braised beef shin with creamed potato, roasted leeks and chestnut mushrooms

or

.Chargrilled polenta with roasted vegetables and a tomato and olive dressing

.Chocolate and liquorice tart with vanilla ice cream

Fun Fact: An executive box would set you back £70,000. However you can decorate it how you like!

During lunch we were joined by Liverpool legends Alan Kennedy and Phil Neal who happily posed for photos and we were given a complementary photo print and after gave us the opportunity to listen to their anecdotes and ask questions.

Fun Fact: Phil Neal is the most decorated player in English football history.

A tad full from lunch we were able to go round the museum and shop until we were ready to leave.

Now I can't say I'm the biggest football fan in the world and actually support (don't judge me!) Sheffield Wednesday, but I found the day brilliant and I know Matt had an incredible time at his homeland. A long way from home we made a weekend of the trip to Liverpool and got to visit some amazing new places.
