Revolution Ultra Contour Review
Revolution Ultra Contour Review
I'm a bit of a makeup hoarder, I simply love buying shiny new products and testing them out! I popped in to Superdrug this week to look for a cheap concealer and came out with a powder, concealer and this fabulours Revolution contour palette. Now, I'm no contouring pro and could only dream of the Kim Kardashian Contour Queen skill, but have been watching youtube videos in an attempt to teach myself! I've been on the look out for a contour palette for a while now and when I saw what looked like the replica of the Anastasia Beverly Pro Series Contour Kit but with two more shades and £31 less, I decided to give it a go.
The packaging is almost identical to the Anastasia kit, sleek minimilasim with rose gold hints at its best.
Who would guess that the left palette would cost you £39 and the right only £8!
At such a bargain price I couldn't help wondering if the quality would be dissapointing. I will happily pay more for a higher quality product as at the end of the day if it lasts longer and needs replacing less frequently, it will be more cost effective in the long run.
I found the shades a good range, with the second from left contour being a lighter ash tone more complimentary for my skin than the first and third warmer shades.
Although most the shades worked for me, I have fair skin and am not sure this palette would work for everyone yet there is only on colour palette available, unlike other brands with light, medium and dark tone palettes.
Banana powder is a current growing trend amongst celebrities and whilst not something I can say I have ever tried, the yellow hue in the Revolution palette mimics the effect and I have found does work well at balancing the purple of under eye bags and creating a brightening effect. Thhe delicate pinks work well as highlighter, although the powder is a little lose and takes a few applications to build up the pigment. The two end shades are more highly pigmented and have a beautiful shimmer, only needing a small amount to add highlight or risk looking like an early 00s girl band member.
As you can see from the swatch test the highlighting shades aren't very pigmented, however they are buildable and the colours are beautiful.
The second and third shades were too warm for my complextion and I did find that the colour needed blending quickly else it 'stained'. But for £8 this palette is a little gem and for contour novices like myself the range of colour is more than enough!
This was my attempt at contouring. I'm no pro and was tentative on application so I'm certain if applied with more practise the overall look would be much better and show off the ability this product has!
